Joshua 24:14-24

INSIGHT

We may regret some choices, but we will never regret choosing to serve the God of all creation.

A CLEAR CHOICE

“‘Now then,’ said Joshua, ‘throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel’” (Joshua 24:23).

We make choices every day. Many are inconsequential, like having our eggs scrambled instead of over medium or wearing brown instead of blue. But some carry serious consequences. If we choose to run a red light, we may cause an accident or get a traffic ticket. If we choose to do drugs, we may irreversibly harm our health. Recently, I counseled a new Christian who was finding it difficult to find employment. He told me he had made some wrong choices that had landed him in prison. Although he had learned a valuable lesson and had become a believer, those poor choices still followed him around. No one seemed interested in hiring a former convict.

Near the end of his life, Joshua summoned the people of Israel to make a choice: serve false gods or serve the LORD (Joshua 24:15). He assured them he and his household would serve the LORD.

Choosing to serve the Lord today and every day is always the right choice. Let’s say with Joshua that “as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
