"...Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
(JOHN 4: 14B)

John 4:1-26
My children can’t walk past a fountain without begging me to stop and watch it with them. Whether the fountain is large, small, ornate or simple… they are mesmerized by the never-ending (and calming) action of the water. They are also drawn to the mystery of it. “Where does the water keep coming from?” they wonder. Unlike a puddle or a pond or a birdbath, this water stays in motion and constantly renews itself. With a fountain, something is always happening; fountains never rest.

Charles Spurgeon wrote, “If Christ were but a cistern, we would soon exhaust His fullness. But who can drain a fountain?” Nobody! This is why believers over the centuries continue to be drawn to The Fountain. His fullness stays in motion and is constantly renewing us. And as Jesus points out to the Samaritan woman at the well, He gives us the water that becomes in us a spring of water. When we are filled with Christ and become springs of His living water, we can be assured that our fullness in Him will not be exhausted.
