"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me."
(PSALM 51:10)

Romans 3:21-26
As people with many faults, we – like King David – suffer from the consequences of the choices we make. Some of us even suffer to the point of seeing no hope of ever being free again. If we are people after God’s own heart, we are painfully and humbly convicted to prevent us from being proud or boastful of what we’ve done.

I will never forget the mistake I made when I committed first-degree murder. Heartfelt pain and humiliation for what I did are always with me. I worried about what the jury’s deliberation would be, what the judge’s sentencing would be – life in prison or death row? Would I be able to survive in a prison system designed for convicted murderers, rapists, gangbangers,
and racists? All hope of ever being free again seemed lost.

So I cried out, Lord, why do you convict me this way? The Lord’s reply was, “My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Thanks be to God for His righteousness that has justified us through our faith in Christ and for His blood shed for my sins.
