“A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.”

Proverbs 18:16
From early on, we learn how central gifts and gift-giving are to Christmas celebrations. People spend months searching for “just the right gift” for someone. This tradition has its roots in the wise men who brought their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to young Jesus. But sadly, we have strayed far away from gift-giving that truly honors the meaning behind the presents.
The wise men were intentional in what they presented to Jesus. What they brought was significant. Their journey to the Messiah (which may have taken two years!) was a deliberate commitment of time and purpose.
Join me this month as we journey in our hearts to King Jesus, thinking not only of the commitment, intent, and purpose of the wise men, but also of how God’s intent and purpose in sending Jesus is the gift for all time, beyond compare. Let your spouse, children, friends, and co-workers see you keeping Christ in Christmas. As the beginning of the Christmas season comes again, leave the frenzy behind and draw near in your heart to the manger.
