"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
(ROMANS 8:28)

Romans 8:18-30
In the summer of 2002, I appeared before the parole board, having served nearly 14 years of a life sentence. I had done all the board had asked and more. I had a solid parole plan with a job offer and a place to live. There was a strong support network in the community awaiting me. I also had a two year relationship with a woman whom I wanted to marry. Finally, it seemed that things might go my way. I will never forget the Parole Commissioner’s words: “Mr. Casson, we unanimously find you unsuitable for parole. This is a one year denial. Keep out of trouble and come back next year.”

It was one of the lowest moments of my life and especially of my life as a Christian. I had plans and desires, and now they were put on hold for at least a year! How did my fiancé and I get through such a thing? We trusted Romans 8:28. This was the best thing for us because God was in control, working everything together for our good. What a comfort! What a bedrock promise for all of us to hold onto in difficult times.
