"How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand..."

Psalm 139:17-18a
The weekend my wife and I got engaged, I shared one of my “hidden talents” – doing a mean Willie Nelson impression. Though not much of a country music fan, I played the piano and sang “Always on My Mind” for her (she married me anyway!). We could both appreciate the sentiment of the song: when you love someone deeply, you think about him or her all the time. Today’s Hallmark holiday reminds people of exactly that.
Our most cherished, longest-lasting love relationships are but mere shadows of God’s greater love for us. Psalm 139 tells us God’s thoughts about us cannot even be numbered (v. 17-18). Despite the difference between His infinite love for us and our limited capacity to return that love, He considers us His friends (John 15:15). How wonderful it is to know that we are loved by God who created and holds all things together! Yet we do not have to struggle to get His attention. He is thinking of each of us right now…waiting for us to share our joys, sorrows, and struggles with Him, our wise and powerful friend.
