"To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
(MARK 12:33)

Revelation 2:1-4
Mark 12:29-31
Busy work! Why do we get so caught up in it? Is it a desire to impress others or to prove our worth to God? Expressions of Christian care and hospitality take many forms. Too often we try to get involved in them all, rushing here and there to make sure we’ve covered the bases. A wise friend once told me, “Not every need is a call. God does not ask us singlehandedly to meet every need we encounter.”

People gifted in the service of hospitality are especially vulnerable here. We fly about, believing our rash expenditures of time, energy and money will be a sacrifice pleasing to God. Our efforts may indeed please Him, but in our activity have we grown too busy to hear Him wooing us into His presence, to slow down and be still before Him, acknowledging Him as our refuge and strength? Listen to the
Holy Spirit.

Passionate devotion to God is always the starting point of all service to others. We will only succeed if we keep Him our “first love” and prayerfully consider the opportunities
He brings our way.
