“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:14
We humans function well with goals. Without them we lack direction in our life, vacillating from whim to whim, from one self-serving pleasure to the next. Is success your goal in life, as it is for most people? How is that measured? Unless Christ is your goal and Jesus is the prize you seek, none of your other pursuits bring lasting fulfillment.
The longer I walk with the Lord and grow in my relationship with Him, the more I see that I am being called far beyond the successes and triumphs of this world. Like Paul I am being called heavenward. And you are, too. Whether you’re a new or young believer or not, do you long to serve Him each day and each moment? In doing so you’ll find the surpassing joy of living for Christ.
For all our striving (even Paul says he pressed on towards his goal), the most amazing thing is that God has already accomplished our goal for us! We are becoming what He’s already made us: His children. He already has won for us in Christ a life lived for Him now and a place in heaven with Him one day.
