"If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die,
we belong to the Lord."
(ROMANS 14:8)

Romans 1:1-6;
1 Corinthians 15:22-23
It is a wonderful comfort to belong to someone or some group. I grew up in a loving family where I was secure knowing I belonged. I remember back in my school days belonging to a circle of friends with whom I was very comfortable. For many years I have belonged to Amy, and she has belonged to me. We belong to our church, where God comforts us in His means of grace. What comfort and joy! But far beyond all of these comforts is that of being in Christ – belonging to Him.

We who have trusted Christ for salvation belong to Him in two important ways. First, we are given new birth by His Spirit. Second, we are adopted by His Father into the family of God. By both birth and adoption, God’s chosen ones belong to Him, and He will never let them go. It’s not about us. We are completely unworthy of belonging. It’s about Jesus and His blood that covers us in righteousness. We have an inexpressible joy that can never diminish or be taken away. For we have died to self, and our lives are hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3).
