"Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council... went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body."
(MARK 15:43)

Mark 15:42-47
Jesus had opponents and supporters among both the religious Pharisees and the Sanhedrin, the political council of the Jews. But many who believed Him were more like Nicodemus, who came to Jesus under cover of darkness.

This Joseph, however, took courage. “He was himself looking for the kingdom of God (v. 43).” The Romans might have left Jesus on the cross, but for the Jews a proper burial was important. Pilate was not upset at the request for a condemned criminal’s remains, just surprised He had died already.

Even the disciples did not yet expect the resurrection, but Joseph knew that Jesus had preached the kingdom he was looking for. His reverence gave him courage; he provided the empty tomb.

I remember the earlier days of my walk with the Lord when seeking the kingdom was so important I didn’t care who knew it. Jesus’s death was a sacrifice for my sins, and He has been raised to glory and will one day raise me, too. So, let us still take courage, like Joseph, and show our love and reverence as the years go on.
