"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
(ISAIAH 43:18-19)

John 4:1-26
There’s a lake in the mountains in southern California called Cuyamaca. On the far side of the lake, there’s a trail going up into the hills, and a couple miles in is an old tree hollowed out years ago by a lightning strike. My family used to hike there when I was a kid, and I would always sit in the hollow place of that tree, thinking it must be one of the biggest on earth. Now when I go back, I’m the one who is struck – by how small and ordinary that tree actually is! My perspective has changed.

Sometimes I have thought about how God is calling me to leave my hollowed-out trees behind and follow Him to new peaks where the trees stand tall and strong, and the view is spectacular. The time comes for all of us when we must forget former things and see the new thing God is doing. Do you know what that “new thing” is that has sprung up making a way in the wilderness? It was (and is!) Jesus, the Living Water Himself, who has come to make all things new. Come out of your old hiding places into His glorious light!
