"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow
of death a light has dawned."
(ISAIAH 9:2)

Isaiah 9:1-7
Several homes in our neighborhood have amazing displays of Christmas lights. The residents in a nearby neighborhood work together to decorate their homes, drawing in traffic for a charitable fundraiser. They use so many Christmas lights it almost seems like daytime in the darkness! In the Charles Dickens story, Scrooge knew that light came with a cost. He walked about in his large home with only one lit candle, and that was all the light he used outside his fireplace.

When the Lord brought His Light into our dark world, there was a tremendous cost (expenses for electricity or candles are nothing in comparison!). Yet God looked down on the darkness of our sin and paid the price to bring us the light of salvation. Jesus, born in Bethlehem, is this Light for everyone.

If you have experienced His saving light and life, praise Him for His gift to you and be ready to share the light with others. If you have not, perhaps this Christmas season is a time to respond to Jesus, the Light of the World, who loves you.
