“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” Isaiah 30:21
The prophet Ezekiel’s job was to speak out about sin and proclaim God’s salvation. He also described some fantastic visions. Early in his ministry, he saw the glory of the Lord so dramatically that it knocked him to the ground. To equip Ezekiel, the Spirit of the Lord did three things: He dwelled in Ezekiel, lifted him up to his feet, and gave him ears to hear. Many have been the times I wished I could have heard an audible word from the Lord directing me to make one decision or another. How fantastic it would be if God just lifted me up and sent me down the right path! Actually, as disciples of Christ, we do experience these three elements from Ezekiel’s call. When we repent and surrender to Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. He raises us from spiritual death (like Ezekiel’s dry bones in chapter 37) and stands us up on our feet. The Spirit convincingly speaks to us in our hearts. In ways we never heard before, He convicts us of sin, assures us of God’s love, and guides us daily to live for Him.
