"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
(JAMES 1:17)

James 1:1-18
As a mom of two children, I know the joy that a gift can bring. On birthdays and at Christmas, our kids unveil their presents with such enthusiasm and gratitude that, as the giver, I take delight in their joy. For adults, part of the beauty in receiving a gift is the fact that you didn’t buy it yourself. You didn’t work toward it or earn it. Maybe it was something you felt like you didn’t deserve, or better yet, didn’t expect. A gift feels extravagant simply because someone else is demonstrating his or her love for you.

God is constantly giving us gifts. They are everywhere, both in the ordinary and in the extraordinary. God’s gifts show up all over Scripture and also in our daily lives. James tells us that every good and perfect gift is from above, from our Father. And He delights in our enthusiasm and gratitude. Sometimes we need to take time just to recognize His gifts. We don’t deserve them, nor do we always expect them, but we know where they come from… from above from our Father of lights who has shined His love down on us.
