"'For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do,
but our eyes are upon you.'"
(2 CHRONICLES 20:12)

2 Chronicles 20:1-15
I’ve been privileged to be a part of EMT teams with law enforcement and hospital staff, planning for possible attacks or critical incidents that we hope will never actually come. We work tirelessly to consider every possible way to keep citizens safe. The enormity and severity of the task we face are truly humbling.

I suspect the Old Testament leader King Jehoshaphat must have felt a similar humbling and weakness as he and his people realized they had “no power to face this vast army that is attacking us.” In humility Jehoshaphat said, “We do not know what to do.”

Each of us comes to such times in our lives; we’re overwhelmed with issues of one sort or another, and we simply don’t know what to do. We learn from this human king what every servant of the true King of kings must remember: turn our eyes on Him. There is nowhere else to go. Listen to Jahaziel, the Lord’s spokesman to the king and his people: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s” (v. 15).
