I have a couple friends with over 300,000 followers on Instagram. They’re not famous photographers and don’t make huge amounts of money. But they’re extremely popular with those hundreds of thousands of fans!


Our culture more than ever breeds people who crave recognition and try through all kinds of social media to convince the world that their own lives are most important. People value and exalt the extraordinary. They even start to expect it.


Was Jesus’ life extraordinary? You bet. And He had crowds of followers, too! But He spent three decades of His JUST-OVER-three-decade-long life living in obscurity, working a day job with His hands. He was faithfully growing and learning and working until the appointed time came for His greatest work to begin.


God honors faithfulness. In a world that glorifies the extraordinary, one of the most astonishing characteristics is simple faithfulness. We can be steadfast in the things God has called us to because He – the faithful One – renews His faithfulness to us each day.
