"May... the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with you all."
(2 CORINTHIANS 13:14)

Romans 8:1-17
When my daughter was in grade school, she made a Mother’s Day card which read, “Mommy, I love you. You are the glue that sticks altogether.” What she was trying to say is that Kathy is the one person that holds our family life together and keeps us from spinning off in too many directions. That is what Paul means when he speaks of the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the person who “sticks all together,” giving us fellowship with Christ and with each other.

It is easy to forget how vital the Holy Spirit is to our salvation. In today’s reading we see that the Holy Spirit renews our minds, gives us spiritual and resurrection life, sanctifies us, leads us, and makes us sons (and daughters) of God and co-heirs with Christ. And that is just a partial list! Indeed, the Holy Spirit is Christ in us.

We can know all the theological facts in the world, but without the Holy Spirit’s blessing given to us and holding us together, it would be worthless. Praise God for the fellowship of the Holy Spirit!
