“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.”

Luke 2:19
I love how the writer of Psalm 71 recounts that the Lord has been his hope since his youth (v. 5), that he will proclaim God’s righteousness (v. 16) shown to him through the years, and that he knows God will not forsake him even when he is old and gray (v. 18). This man has treasured up some wonderful memories.
You might recall precious moments that gripped your own heart and are forever sealed in your mind: cradling a newborn baby, observing a bride and groom on their wedding day, beholding a magnificent ocean or desert or mountain. We make memories with our loved ones when we celebrate birthdays, go on adventures, and keep traditions at home.
Luke tells us that Mary treasured up what was happening in and through her. The Savior her people had waited generations for would come to be––through her! How she must have tried to keep every detail of it! We’ve been given not only the matchless gift of Jesus, but also Mary’s memories of how it all unfolded.
Cherish the memories the Lord has blessed you with. But above all, cherish Him.
