God, the Desert Rider

Anchor Devotional - 09.12.18

“Sing to God, sing praise to his name, extol him who rides on the clouds—his name is the LORD—and rejoice before him.” Psalm 68:4

Psalm 68

Another translation of this Scripture verse says, “Prepare the way for him who rides through the deserts.” What a vivid image of our God, especially if you’re familiar with desert terrain.

The desert presents a danger to all who enter it. Thorny plants, venomous creatures, waterless rivers, and highway robbers can make the desert a difficult place to survive. But where man struggles to survive, God is said to ride with ease.

When God brought His people out of Egypt and to the Promised Land, He led them through the desert wilderness. Without Him, they would have perished. And many times they complained they would! But they were under God’s protection. Deuteronomy 1:31 says of that time, “The LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son.”

We also are being carried by God, not just through the deserts of this world, but also through the wilderness of sin. In the Son, God comes to us, picks us up out of danger, and transports us all the way to the promised land of heaven. For this, let us never stop praising Him.
