"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves
those who are crushed in spirit."
(PSALM 34:18)

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
Sometimes our suffering is an opportunity for God to extravagantly display His love. Thirteen weeks into the pregnancy of our first child, a radiologist saw a tumor on an ultrasound and prepared me for the idea of cancer. My husband and I had just over a week before the surgical removal of what was determined a benign tumor to feel our utter dependence upon the Lord. We began to see with more clarity than before all the ways that the Lord was with us. Each friend who accompanied us to a doctor’s appointment, each prayer sent over email, each meal delivered was a reassuring whisper from our Lord: I love you.

When we are at our lowest, we often feel God’s presence the most. And while we’re not promised that everything will turn out just as we would like, we are promised that God will be with us. Though Satan is defeated, the battle rages on, and God is always there, trumping Satan’s every move. He is not distant. The Lord counts every tear we shed. One day when those tears end, we will see Him more clearly.
