“He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.”

Matthew 8:15
Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with a fever. Rarely in my adult life have I been so sick with a fever that I was delirious from it. It’s a miserable feeling while your body wages war to get that fever to break. We do not know if hers was serious enough to threaten death. But we do know Jesus entered the room and entered her life with His healing touch.
He touched her hand. He was not cold or distant. He did not recoil from human suffering. In Jesus Christ both we and Peter’s mother-in-law have a Savior who “bore our diseases” (Matthew 8:17). He came from heaven and took our suffering upon Himself.
The Lord supplied full relief that day at Peter’s house. Restored and strengthened, Peter’s mother- in-law rose to serve Him. We, too, are healed to serve. Ephesians 2:10 says we are “created in Christ Jesus to do good works.” Out of deep gratitude for how Jesus has healed us from all our sin, we desire to serve Him. See what is in store for you today to show your gratitude for the fact that Jesus changes everything.
