"Then Jesus said, 'Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?'"
(John 11:40)

John 11:1-43
The story of Lazarus is one of the most stunning examples in the Bible of what the Gospel looks like – what appeared to be death was reversed into glory. Jesus knew what He was going to do, but He only revealed to others that it would bring glory to God in the end. He kept the rest of the details to Himself; that would have to be enough for the others to believe. The raising of Lazarus from his tomb was a glimpse of what lie ahead. But no one could imagine how glorious the outcome of Jesus’ story would be! No one could imagine a reversal of death itself – only the mind of Christ could conceive of that kind of ending!

Everything God ordains is for the purpose of His glory. And because “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28), those things that bring Him glory are also for our good. We can pray with confidence for God’s glory to be revealed in our situation. We can believe that, for His purposes, even a “reversal of death” is possible.
