"... Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying loudly. He said to them, 'Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.' But they laughed at him."
(Mark 5:38-40)

Mark 5:21-43
If a three-year-old says something outlandish, we may think it is sweet and comical. But if a grown-up makes a similar statement, we’d consider him a fool. That’s how you might think of it that day in the synagogue ruler’s house. Had a small child said the girl was only sleeping, people would have thought the words cute. But when Jesus said it, they laughed at Him for a fool.

The crowd gathered around Jairus’ little daughter couldn’t help laughing at Jesus’ preposterous words. The Gospel message is still considered foolish by many today. People hear how a man rose from the dead and saved the world. How could that be? It sounds foolish!

Jesus is God, and what is impossible for men is possible for God. In fact, nothing is impossible for Him. Even the most stubborn, hateful sinner can love his enemy. Even a carpenter can die for the sins of the world.

If you are ridiculed for telling others about the Good News of the Gospel, remember that Jesus was laughed at. But even death could not keep Him down!
