"Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit."
(PSALM 147:5)

Psalm 147
My kids look at dessert as a problem of subtraction. They are worried that sharing means we run out of brownies, or cookies, or gummy bears. I can see my son silently assess, “if my sister has some, will there be any left for me?” Psalm 147 is a reminder that God is without limits. He’s infinite. John Piper once said, “Infinite has no subtraction.” So, because God has given someone else good gifts, does not mean there is less for me. He doesn’t operate under a scarcity model. His infinite grace and riches are not like a pie that is sliced up until someone is left with an empty plate.

Recently, I heard someone say: “God’s love is more like a day at the beach. As much as I bask in that sunlight, there is no less of it for anyone else on that beach.” Think about that. We are not kids who have to worry about the distribution of God’s gifts as though they were brownies soon to be devoured. His riches, His understanding, His grace… have no subtraction, and He can do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine (see Ephesians 3:20).
