“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Matthew 6:13
My parole officer friend works with former inmates who have been released from prison. He’s told me that with this new freedom, the parolees are like kids in a “cybershop,” bombarded with temptations that seek to lure them back to corrupt lifestyles. Don’t we all face powerful cultural forces which are bound and determined to steer us off course and down a path of destruction?
Jesus faced temptations and spiritual battles throughout His entire ministry. He knew that His followers would as well, so He ended this prayer to the Father with a petition for divine intervention. On the cross Jesus ended His battle with the enemy by crying out, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
The safest place for us is in the mighty hands of Abba, Father. Our three enemies—Satan, the world, and our own flesh—will continue to tempt us as if we were kids in a candy shop. Our only hope is to cry out to the Father for strength that comes by the overcoming power in the perfect shed blood of Jesus. Place your life in His hands.
