"Forgive us our debts, as we also have
forgiven our debtors."
(MATTHEW 6:12)

Matthew 18:21-35
We live in a world where it is common to hold grudges against one another, to sue and to demand rights. Jesus clearly taught that the kingdom of God is for those who are forgiven and those who forgive others. As God forgives us by the merits of Jesus’ atoning blood, so we forgive others.

A new and exciting way of living in the freedom of forgiveness is possible through the Holy Spirit. The hallmark of Christ followers around the entire world is their willingness to lay down their own rights and forgive. This is not a sign of weakness but of phenomenal strength. There is more power in one act of forgiveness than in a thousand acts of hateful revenge.

Just because the citizens of the kingdom of God forgive others does not mean that they have low ethical standards. On the contrary, they seek to live holy lives, enabled by the power of the Spirit who is holy. They hate sin but love sinners, knowing full well that Jesus hated their own sin so much that He went to the cross to pay the penalty for it.
