"The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. He said to them, '...What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.'"
(LUKE 16: 14-15)

Matthew 22:34-40
In A Christmas Carol business was always on Scrooge’s mind, not just at Christmas. He considered himself a “good man of business.” Marley presented a side of business that Scrooge had never considered. “Mankind was my business… charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence were all my business.” It seemed that what Scrooge saw as being a good businessman was a mere drop in the bucket next to what was truly treasured from an eternal point of view.

In our text today, Jesus pointed out that same truth to the Pharisees who placed great value on money and the status that came with it. God values the heart that is committed to Him and to the welfare of others. With all the commercialism around us at Christmas time, it is easy to get sidetracked in the frenzy of looking for the perfect gift. But in God’s economy, the greatest gift of all is Jesus Christ, the one who made us “His business.” His goodness and mercy draw us to Him. When we value Him above all else, we celebrate
His birth with an eternal point of view.
