“‘Have faith in God,’ Jesus answered. ‘I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart but believes…, it will be done for him.’”

Mark 11:22-23
These are Jesus’ words: red-letter edition, powerful, important. Spoken to His disciples who’d been with Him for three years and who were there to the bitter and triumphant end, these words are life-changing. On the day of the Christian calendar when we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, we begin a month of meditations on what it is like when a person has been with Jesus. Just look at the disciples on Easter morning!
Were Jesus’ words to them playing back in their minds as they found the tomb empty? If their Master had conquered death, could they also believe that nothing would be too much for them?
I have to ask myself that when my sister is diagnosed with progressive dementia, or when my son is making poor life choices, or when my financial picture looks grim. Jesus knows what it is to suffer, to ache in His heart for others, to dread what is ahead. But He not only knows our suffering; He is the answer to it! By taking our sin’s punishment on Himself at the cross, by trampling over death, He has won the victory for us!
