“…there was no water for the people to drink. So they quarreled with Moses, and said, ‘Give us water to drink.’ Moses replied, ‘Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?’”

Exodus 17:1b-2
The children of Israel were directed to the wilderness where they would experience a long, dry, and thirsty time. If you are in a “dry place,” consider that this is exactly where the Lord has led you. Accept that the Lord is shaping you and conforming you to His will. It’s hard to appreciate the refreshment of the oasis until you know agonizing desert thirst. Being in a dry place does not always mean your sin took you there. Sometimes the Lord takes you there to strengthen your faith and deepen your relationship with Him. Though it’s far easier to put your faith in Christ in the “oasis times,” know that the “desert times” are in His sovereign plan, too.
Only the Lord can quench your spiritual thirst. While on their desert journey, the Israelites drank water from the rock Moses had struck. Centuries later Paul showed how that points us to Jesus. “For they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4). The Rock of our salvation turns our desert into a refreshing oasis.
