"Yet I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay."
(PSALM 40:17)

Psalm 86
Often we cover heartbreaking stories on the HAVEN Today radio broadcast. It may be a disaster of some sort: hurricanes, accidents, wars, etc. But heartbreak can come in different forms.

When Canada was eliminated from the Women’s World Cup last year, one of their players posted the following on social media: “Words cannot describe how utterly heartbroken I am.” Even losing a game can hurt! When was the last time you lost something that deeply hurt? Was it a possession, a job, someone special?

David wrote Psalm 86 for times of heartbreak. He cried out to God knowing he was “poor and needy.” He begged the Lord to have mercy on him and to restore joy in his life again.

Then he focused on the truth he knew about God… that He was always merciful and His love was steadfast towards His people. After re-centering his life on the truth about God’s character, he proclaimed, “I will praise you …with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever” (v. 12).

May we confess our need for Jesus today and re-center our lives on Him!
