"Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins."
(PSALM 25:18)

Luke 5:17-26
Even when we find ourselves immobile in affliction and distress, sin is not far behind. Worry, self-pity, or disappointment can overtake us. Jesus understands our struggles. He came to offer forgiveness, and it extends to the outright offenses of the vicious killer as well as to the secret sins of a dear one on his or her deathbed. Christ has washed over it all!

Remember the paralyzed man whose friends lowered him through the roof of the crowded building so that he could be healed? Jesus forgave his sins before healing his paralysis, didn’t He? Many may have thought that the poor fellow who couldn’t even move could not possibly have sinned. But his heart was the same as yours and mine: desperately wicked and beyond cure (see Jeremiah 17:9).

Delight in your forgiveness today. It’s miraculous! The healed paralytic went out praising God and telling others of Jesus. Live in the freedom Jesus died to win for you. When you know the debt has been paid for your guilt, it’s hard not to share that with others.
