“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.”

John 14:1-2
It’s becoming a rarity these days for couples to marry without bringing lots of “baggage” from the past into the relationship. Sadly, pasts with divorce, addictions, and various kinds of abuse are commonplace. Herb and Laurie are one couple who know this to be true.
Laurie shared about being severely abused as a child. She spoke of such dysfunction in her family that she couldn’t even attend her own sister’s funeral. But she and Herb have been helped mightily by the example and compassion of Herb’s Christian parents. Their commitment to and belief in a God who makes beauty from ashes has helped Laurie break the cycle of generational sin.
Laurie shared how she and Herb have been blessed along their healing journey by Haven’s John Challenge. They read a chapter from the book of John every night together before bed, alternating the reading of verses. After finishing, they decided to carry on reading together! They are now reading and loving the book of Philippians, as well as appreciating the Anchor devotional which speaks to them daily.
