“The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” Isaiah 32:17-18
The Lord’s blessings for us do not end with regenerating us or giving us new life in Christ. In fact, that’s just the beginning! The Spirit grants us new hearts, commissions us to share our hope with the lost, and settles us with a rest more profound than we ever before imagined. We are secure in the knowledge that the God of the universe has everything under control. Do you long to truly know what that promised rest feels like? If your life is anything like mine, you probably would love to have the peace, security, and rest Isaiah speaks of in chapter 37. Our peace is not going to be found in the Promised Land as an area of real estate in the Middle East. The unrest there may go on forever. But you will find earthly glimpses of it in a weekly Sabbath rest. You also can glimpse the identity, security, and bounty God’s people knew when you become connected with a church. One day we’ll reach the true Promised Land with Jesus in heaven. While we are passing through life on this earth, in Christ we are settled and secure.
