"Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea - the LORD on high is mighty."
(PSALM 93:4)

Psalm 93
My friend who grew up on the Oregon coast, often fishing in the ocean, knew the waters well. He also knew a strong calling on his heart to ministry. These two parts of his life came together one day while fishing. A violent storm rolled in. As he rode at the tops of the waves and then plunged down into troughs, fear overwhelmed him. But he thought that if God had called him to be a pastor, He surely could keep him safe to fulfill that. Instantly, he sensed God’s peace, even in the midst of the storm.

Eventually, he went on to become a pastor, never forgetting his harrowing rollercoaster ride on the ocean and always remembering the protection the Lord had wrapped him in that day.

“The LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength” (Psalm 93:1). There’s a shadow of Jesus in this psalm. Our Savior is robed in majesty because He was the one whose robes were torn from Him as He went to the cross. He gave Himself as a perfect sacrifice so that we might be robed in His righteousness, kept safe through every storm.
