“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.”

Psalm 40: 2-3a
Have you ever been rescued? Maybe it was from slipping and falling, or perhaps from being lost. If you’ve been rescued from a car accident, a flood, a fire, or an ocean current, you certainly will never forget it. I know if someone ever pulled me out of guaranteed danger and lifted me to safety, I’d be singing the praises of that miraculous rescuer forever!
Well, God is our Rescuer. He’s lifted us from guaranteed death and has pulled us to safety from life’s storms and temptations. When He drags us out of sin’s mud and sets us on a sure foundation, we can do nothing but sing His praises. Not only for those around us to hear, but especially for Him!
Whatever you do, wait patiently for the Lord to work out His plans in your life (see v. 1). What’s one of the best things to do while waiting? Sing! Let your heart overflow with gratitude. After all, He taught you how to sing praises to Him in the good times and also in the bad. We begin to learn that it isn’t so much what God does, but who He is that makes us want to sing.
