"In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus."
(Romans 6:11)

Romans 6:1-14
Despite the high cost, we had our living room painted by a professional because of a tricky stairwell and high ceilings that we weren’t ready to scale. The first thing he did was set up a huge spotlight. This bright light made every imperfection in the wall cast a shadow. He discovered dents we didn’t even know we had! With his light, he found each one and fixed it before painting over it. The result was an even, smooth finish.

Do you see how this is similar to what happens when Jesus comes into our lives? He is the light in the darkness, and as we get closer to Him, we become aware of all the areas of our lives that are casting shadows, the imperfections that hinder us from having a smooth and sanctified “finish.”
Ignoring them or hiding them does no good. We need the real professional, Jesus Christ, to come in. He is willing and capable, and He paid the high cost for us with His life. Don’t fool yourself into thinking there are no dents! Stand in the light of Jesus which wondrously covers over all your sin.
