“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 1:6
I love the line in a favorite Christmas song of mine, “The Little Drummer Boy,” that says, “I have no gift to bring that’s fit to give our king.” We certainly can feel that inadequacy as our own gifts under the Christmas tree—beautifully wrapped as they may be—pale in comparison to the gift God has given us: Jesus Christ.
Is there anything we possess or have within that is worthy of offering to the King of the universe? On our own, no. God wants us, the real, authentic, unadorned us. But without Jesus, what we offer falls short (see Isaiah 64:6).
There have been times the most cherished gift I open at Christmas is the least expensive one. Sometimes it is an item made by one of my children. As touched as I am when I open it, how much more does our Heavenly Father’s heart soar when we accept His perfect, inestimable gift of salvation? When we are made pure through the blood of Christ, we become a gift “that’s fit to give our king.” And then the good work He has begun in us is worked out through the rest of our lives.
