“And Isaiah boldly says, ‘I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.’

Romans 10:20
One of the fundamental differences between Christianity and all other religions is revealed in this passage. God was found by people who did not seek Him, and God revealed Himself to people who did not ask for Him. He is still operating this way! In other words, God is the initiator of our relationship. The Gospel comes from God to us, not the other way around.
False religions devise ways for humans to either reach out to God and find Him when He cannot be found or look inside themselves to find Him. True religion is God reaching to us rebels when we would rather He leave us alone. This truth is very damaging to our egos. We would like to say we wanted to know God and we sought after God and found Him. But it’s simply not true. To the extent that you or I may have sensed a desire to know Him, it is really a God-initiated hunger that would otherwise not be there. Sadly, our natural inclination is to worship ourselves or a god of our own making.
