“Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

Hebrews 2:18
Have you ever gone on a diet and wished that God would simply take away your hunger? That would eliminate the difficulties easily! But instead of taking away your appetite, God did something even better. He took on your appetite so He could redeem it.
The God who was never hungry became a baby who cried for His mother’s milk. Think of Jesus as a toddler, a teenager, a young man. He not only experienced hunger, He was tempted by hunger. When? Probably many times. Perhaps when His younger brother took the last piece of bread. Or perhaps when His mother asked Him to finish His Brussels sprouts! Ultimately, He was tempted in the wilderness when the devil came to Him after His 40-day fast.
Each temptation was real for Jesus, like it is for us. He suffered when He was tempted, just as we do. Why would He subject Himself to that? It’s because of His great love for us. Only someone who has experienced temptation can understand how it feels. Only someone who has conquered temptation can bring help to those who need it.
