“Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.”

Mark 3:13
Just off campus during my college years was a trail that led up a mountain. At the top was an old concrete bench, grown over with vines. There I could clear a spot and have personal time with God. Overlooking the city of Oakland, above the noise and fuss of people, I brought Scriptures to mind that are still today etched deep into my heart.
Numerous times in the Gospels we find Jesus calling His disciples to a mountain or hillside. He sought the quiet and a time of rest. Away from the crowds, He had their undivided attention and could teach His truths to them, heart to heart. They would need this to become His ambassadors and servant leaders. Jesus was calling these men to proclaim Him. He gave them power and the authority to act and speak on His behalf.
At other times, Jesus went to solitary places to pray all alone, without His close friends with Him. Can you find time to be alone with God? It can be any place where He has your undivided attention. Then listen as He directs you and prepares you for what is ahead.
