“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

1 Peter 2:6
When I look at the diamond I wear on my left hand, its nearly flawless and multifaceted beauty reminds me of my husband’s enduring love for 37 years of marriage. Any diamond, no matter its size, is a precious gemstone.
The diamond also reminds me of the precious beauty of Jesus, the Rock of Ages. Peter must have been heartened when he recalled Isaiah’s prophecy that spoke directly to him (Peter, the rock, as Jesus named him!) and assured him he would not be put to shame. Peter, who could in fact recall many shameful moments in his past, would rest on the everlasting cornerstone—the most precious and enduring stone there is: Jesus Christ.
This is our gem of great price, too. This Savior, who transforms our hearts so that we reflect the Father’s love and holiness, is our flawless and eternal living Stone. Missing the considerable worth of Jesus Christ has irreversible consequences. Without faith, we trade a certain future in God’s holy household for a joyless journey away from Him. Repent, trust Him, and be ashamed no more.
