“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:13
Since the Bible is the inspired Word of God, we know that God has spoken in some way with humans. God the Father spoke with Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and others. There are passages where God the Son appears and speaks, even prior to His coming as Jesus in the New Testament. But most of the time, when God speaks to the prophets, it is God the Spirit who is talking. The Spirit entered into Ezekiel, for example, setting him on his feet and speaking to him. What might that have been like? Perhaps frightening? Remember, there was nothing special about Ezekiel. He was still under the curse of Adam’s sin like any other man. What made him special was that God came to him and chose him. And God speaks today to us common, ordinary, imperfect sinners, too. He speaks to us in His Word which the Holy Spirit brings to life in our hearts. God the Father is in heaven, and God the Son is at His right hand, but God the Spirit can be and is in our hearts, 24/7, teaching us truth and reminding us of how loved we are.
