"I was senseless and ignorant;
I was a brute beast before you."
(PSALM 73:22)

2 Corinthians 1:18-22
There is nothing like a trial in your life to show you the reality of your heart. When my first cancer diagnosis came, that was true for me. My heart was ugly and hard, and I felt determined to conquer this. My scheming and pouting did not deter the love of God. He met me as I walked with tears streaming down my face towards the mountains near our house. Even then
I could tell God was going to bring me to the bottom of myself.

Because God is faithful and has been through all of time, I trust His promises extended to me now. You and I can face trials unafraid and undaunted by our own sinful hearts, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:20). Because of Jesus, we can make it through the day. “Because He lives/I can face tomorrow/Because He lives, all fear is gone;/Because I know He holds the future,/And life is worth the living,/Just because He lives” (Bill and Gloria Gaither, 1974). We can be assured He will care for us and our loved ones even after we’ve gone.
