“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family… and
became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.”
What qualifications would you expect a candidate to have for a position of great responsibility? You might look for an advanced degree, some type of reputable work experience, and solid references.
God had quite an important position available: builder of an ark to preserve a sample of all life on the earth in the event of the upcoming worldwide flood. God’s list of qualifications was short. He was interested in a righteous man, one blameless and willing to walk with Him (v. 9). There is no mention of an engineering background, expertise in woodworking, or veterinary knowledge for caring for animals. God’s qualifications for His work were heart-oriented. Often the person God chooses may not look like the best candidate.
What position might God be considering for you? Do you feel totally unqualified? Remember that God chooses his candidates in a unique way (see 1 Corinthians 1:27-29). When you respond to the Lord in faith and are willing to serve Him humbly, He does something extraordinary with your ordinary life.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
