"...You brought me forth from my mother's womb.
I will ever praise you."
(PSALM 71:6)

Psalm 71
Perhaps you’ve seen the bumper sticker that says, “Every child a wanted child.” The irony of that slogan is how it’s used to rationalize the murder of thousands of unborn babies every year.

I was born in 1974 – just a year after the Roe vs. Wade decision that imposed legalized abortion throughout the United States. My father was in prison. My mother was a drug addict who abandoned me in a motel room. From a human perspective, I wasn’t a “wanted” child. But I was wanted by God.

The Bible teaches that children are a blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5). God promised Abraham He would give him a son in his old age (Genesis 18). David knew that God had loved him even from his mother’s womb (Psalm 22:10). Jeremiah was known by God and ordained a prophet even before God formed him in his mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5)!

My own daughter just turned one. She’s an answer to my prayers in prison years ago. She’s living proof that God is the One who took me out of my mother’s womb and shaped my life for Him.

Insight

No child of God should ever feel unwanted or unloved. Remember that in Christ we were chosen before the foundation of the world (EPHESIANS 1:4).
