"The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood,
I will pass over you."
(EXODUS 12:13)

Exodus 12:1-28
Passover told the story. That annual feast, the most important in the Jewish calendar, told of the rescue of God’s people from Egyptian bondage. When God sent the ten plagues, the final one was the most severe. All the first-born in Egypt were to be slain in one horrible night of judgment. God’s chosen people, however, were spared if they slaughtered a sacrificial lamb and placed its blood on the doorposts of their houses. Every year that story was dramatically told. In fact, they’re still telling it! All who know Jesus as Messiah are telling it, too.

Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with His 12 disciples – and gave it a whole new meaning. He told of His impending death as the ultimate fulfillment of that Old Testament picture. Those sacrificial lambs pointed forward to the Lamb of God whose blood was to be shed on Calvary’s cross. Salvation for the children of Israel came as they, by faith, applied the blood to their houses. Salvation for us comes as Christ applies His precious blood to wash away our sins.
