"One thing I ask of the Lord...: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple."
(PSALM 27:4)

Exodus 40
Psalm 27:4-6
When we think of hospitality, houses often come to mind. Home is where we feel secure and protected, where we relax, find comfort and are encouraged. It’s where we put our feet up and let our hair down. The Israelites, throughout 40 years in the wilderness, had a deep longing for a permanent home. And God would lead them to it in time.

Meanwhile, they had with them the tabernacle with its dome of animal skins, an ever-present picture of God’s protection, forgiveness and provision. It was there in that holy place that God was at home among His people.

God’s desire to make His home with us has never changed. Under the powerful supervision of the Almighty Architect, our humble rooms of wood and drywall become peaceful oases from day-to-day living in a fallen world. It is the most important setting in which people come together for fellowship and loving reassurance. Home should be a tabernacle where we experience abundant life with God. Do those we welcome inside experience that, too?
