|ANCHOR DEVOTIONAL - DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH
“...to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ….”
(1 CORINTHIANS 1:2)
Consider a diamond. When it is first dug from the earth, it appears to be just another rock. It is a diamond nonetheless. Only after the diamond cutter performs his great skills does it take on the visible, dazzling characteristics we associate with that gem.
All who are “in Christ” are as the diamonds. We may look like plain old rocks. But as the Lord employs His diamond cutting skills on us, we begin to shine and reflect His glory.
The Bible speaks of sanctification in two different senses: a past, completed act; and an ongoing, progressive condition. Progressive sanctification speaks of our growing as Christians and learning to live a life that shows God’s glory as a result of how much we enjoy Him. It is merely God’s cutting away on us to reveal what we are in Christ - diamonds in the rough. In Christ, you are already sanctified, made holy. You are a diamond; you’re being polished to look like one.
