What’s the worst thing you have ever forgotten? Last week one of the world’s largest cruise ships, was overlooked and missed out on docking in Nassau – a city in the Bahamas.
With over 4,000 passengers, the ship Norwegian Epic, waiting to be berthed, was forgotten, unable to dock, then finally turned away. One local business owner who lost out from the boatload of passengers hoping to embark and shop was dumbfounded that such a large ship could be neglected.
What’s the most important thing you've forgotten? There was the time my wife and I were distracted and drove away, forgetting one of our children as we left home for church! As bad as that was, there’s something even more important I often forget. In fact, it’s something all Christians commonly forget … we forget the gospel! We try acting like Christians, but forget we are sinners, saved by the unfathomable love and audacious grace of Jesus who died life for us.
Welcome to HT, I’m CM sharing the GS that’s all about Jesus and part three of a program called Preaching the Gospel to Yourself. Have you ever felt hit a brick wall? Have you felt like giving up on your faith? I have and so did a pastor, Milton Vincent, who we’ve had on the program this week. He’s going to join us again, but first, we’ll hear from a student and hear him tell about hitting the brick wall, ready to give up on faith. In the end, I think you will be encouraged in your faith. And after the program, I want to invite you to call, to make a gift to this ministry and then ask for a leather-bound copy of Milton Vincent’s A Gospel Primer for Christians … Learning to See the Glories of God’s Love. Call us at 1-800-654-2836. That’s 1-800-65-HAVEN. Or you can visit our website, make your gift and order a copy of A Gospel Primer for Christians at haventoday.org. That’s haventoday.org.
Open-Redeemed- Big Daddy Weave-From “Love Come To Life” Fervent Records -This is a recent number one song in CCM- Lyrics:
Seems like all I could see was the struggle
Haunted by ghosts that lived in my past
Bound up in shackles of all my failures
Wondering how long is this gonna last
Then You look at this prisoner and say to me "son
Stop fighting a fight it's already been won"
I am redeemed, You set me free
So I'll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, now I'm not who I used to be
I am redeemed, I'm redeemed
All my life I have been called unworthy
Named by the voice of my shame and regret
But when I hear You whisper, "Child lift up your head"
I remember, oh God, You're not done with me yet
I am redeemed, You set me free
So I'll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, now I'm not who I used to be
Because I don't have to be the old man inside of me
'Cause his day is long dead and gone
Because I've got a new name, a new life, I'm not the same
And a hope that will carry me home
I am redeemed, You set me free
So I'll shake off these heavy chains
Wipe away every stain, yeah, I'm not who I used to be
Oh, God, I'm not who I used to be
Jesus, I'm not who I used to be
'Cause I am redeemed
Thank God, redeemed
HT and a week about preaching the Gospel to yourself. Big Daddy Weave opening with his recent number one song called Redeemed from the Come to Life album. And every this week we are featuring a song by Martin Smith – I Could Sing of Your Love Forever. Stick around and we’ll share a new version in a little bit. We’ve got a pastor Milton Vincent – who joined us the first two days of the week, listening now in our control room and inside the studio. With me in the studio is a friend mine, a brother in the Lord and he used to be my assistant. He grew up as a missionary kid in Mexico. He went to a Christian college and now he’s in seminary. Adrian Crum, welcome to HT.
Adrian
(Put instrumental Sing of Your Love Underneath toward the end of Adrian and for a little while)
Now that is a story that can cause you to sing of His love forever right? We’re playing musical chairs and Pastor Milton Vincent is now coming into our studio so take a seat as Adrian is heading back to the control room. Milton you were listen to a young man who was profoundly impacted by your story of hitting the brick wall and thinking of – as you put it – chucking your faith ten years ago. I know you don’t like to bring attention to yourself, but your book is what the Lord used. As you listened to how the Lord broke Adrian who was already a Christian and studying to become a pastor what was running through your mind?

I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever- The Martins- From “Glorify, Edify, Testify” Springhill Music
The Bible was written not to satisfy your curiosity but to help you conform to Christ’s image. Not to make you a smarter sinner but to make you like the Savior. Not to fill your head with a collection of biblical facts but to transform your life.” That’s from the late Howard Hendricks of Dallas Seminary and I like that. A few weeks ago I was going through a real dry spell. What am I going to teach on this program. What themes does the Lord won’t me to touch on when I am out of juice. I’m feeling at a total loss and running on empty. And that’s when the Lord led me to Romans 5 and I remember Milton Vincent’s book A Gospel Primer for Christians … Learning to See the Glories of God’s Love. That was it, we had never done a series on preaching the Gospel to ourselves. So I called Milton and said, “you’ve got to join me on the program.” And he said yes and today we added that poignant story from Adrian Crum. What about you? Have you hit a brick wall and need to learn to preach the gospel to yourself? We’ve heard from several listeners over the past few days. From Connecticut, a listener to WIHS wrote us and said, “What I heard today sounded so much like my personal struggle. I'm waiting for God to do something in me I cannot do for myself as I preach the Gospel to myself daily. Thank you.”
I want to invite you to get a copy of A Gospel Primer for Christians as our thanks for your gift to HT. Why don’t you call us now at 1-800-654-2836. That’s 1-800-65-HAVEN. Or give and ask for the book by visiting our website at haventoday.org. That’s haventoday.org.
I’m CM and I’m praying for you to learn to preach the Gospel to yourself. Won’t you come back tomorrow and join us and we share the GS together … it’s all about Jesus … here on HT.
