Series: Near the Cross
Title: Above All (with Paul Baloche)
Wednesday, May 23, 2012
We all need insurance, “just in case”. Words from my late father and that’s what I’ve always assumed. Even for Christians, we’re taught it’s better to be prepared than to go without.. You’re in good hands, but who with?
Insurance is being safe against car accidents, getting sick, losing a life. Allstate is the insurance company known for using the symbol of hands. You’re in good hands with Allstate. In recent years, another insurance company, owned by Warren Buffet, has cut out the agents and sold direct, using an animated Gecko to make Geico, one of the largest insurance companies around. Insurance companies may claim buying their policy will put you in good hands, but for life to be really safe, I ask the question again – who with? Are you safely in the hands of the Lord or are you trying some other way, some other means to remain safe? May I recommend first finding safety in the hands of the Lord?
Welcome to HT, I’m CM sharing the GS that’s all about Jesus and a program called Above All with Paul Baloch. We will hear from this talented Christian musician. We’ll also hear his song as sung by the HAVEN Quartet in a brand new album we are releasing this week called Near the Cross – 14 songs that will lead you to the power of the cross and living a Christ-centered life. A few years ago, I asked the Haven musicians to record these songs and most have never been released until now. I’d like you to have this new CD as our thanks for your gift to HAVEN Today. You can call us after the program at 1-800-654-2836. That’s 1-800-65-HAVEN. You can also listen to audio samples of all 14 tracks and then go online, make your gift to the ministry and ask for a copy of the HAVEN CD Near the Cross. Just go to haventoday.org. That’s haventoday.org. None of us are beyond the hand of the Lord. He’s above all and yet he is with us all when we are in Christ Jesus. Stay with me as we see in God’s Word that he is above all and that his hand is with us in many special ways.
Paul Baloche is a worship leader in a church. He’s also writes music, like Above All.

OPEN Song – Above All – Haven – Near the Cross
An acappella version by the Haven Quartet of the Paul Baloche song, Above All from a new CD that we are releasing this week called Near the Cross hear on HAVEN Today. Listen to the word of the Lord from
Psalm 145:10-21
10 All your works praise you, Lord; your faithful people extol you. 11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, 12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. 14 The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing. 17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does. 18 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. 20 The Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. 21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.
For those of us who are in Christ we have the assurance that we are in far better hands than an insurance company. The Bible says that you and I are in the hands of the Lord.
John 10:27-29 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
We understand from this verse that to be in the Father's hands means that we are secure in Christ. What great comfort that gives to us, especially in light of the fact that Satan, “as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). TRANSITION:
But when the Bible speaks about the “hands” of God, it consummates in being secure in Christ, but it’s so much more and we pick up those strains in that song Above All. Here are just a few found in scripture:
1) We are created by the hand of God
Job 10:8
“Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me?
Psalm 119:73
Your hands made me and formed me; give me understanding to learn your commands.
2) We are sustained by the hand of the Lord.
How many times I’ve been in a terrible predicament, in desparate need to know that my Lord is with me through some trial and it is his hand that sustains me.
Job 12:9-10
9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
Numbers 11:21-23
21 But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ 22 Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?” 23 The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you. ”
3) We are strengthened by the hand of the Lord
Ezra 7:28
28 and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king’s powerful officials. Because the hand of the Lord my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.
Psalm 18:35
35 You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.
Psalm 37:23-24
23 The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; 24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
4) We are delivered by the hand of the Lord
Exodus 13:14
14 “In days to come, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ say to him, ‘With a mighty hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
5) We are redeemed by the hand of the Lord
Nehemiah 1:10
10 “They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand.
6) We are lead by the hand of the Lord
Psalm 139:7-10
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
7) We are blessed by the hand of Lord
Ecclesiastes 2:24
24 A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God.
8) We are satisfied by the hand of the Lord
Psalm 145:16
16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
9) We are motivated by the hand of the Lord
2 Chronicles 30:12
12 Also in Judah the hand of God was on the people to give them unity of mind to carry out what the king and his officials had ordered, following the word of the Lord.
Above all, we are in God’s hand and those are just nine reasons of many shared in scripture. James 1:17 says that, “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above...”
Everything we have and enjoy in life is a gift from the Father's hand, including the hand of Christ, the hand nailed to the cross and yet the hand that saves us.
